When I was in Tirol in Austria last year, I was surprised by the combination of modern and traditional architecture. Sure, you can find plenty of houses with wooden shutters and hotels with dark interiors, but there are plenty of Design Hotels in the Austrian Alps as well. The following accommodations bring a clear contemporary flavor, with tight design and luxurious facilities.
1. Hotel Schwarzer Adler Kitzbühel
Just a 5-minute walk from the lively center of Kitzbühel, 4-star Hotel Schwarzer Adler offers top accommodations at a top location. The bright rooms are decorated with soothing colors, making you feel right at home. The hotel offers winter packages, which include a ski pass, as well as summer packages which include cultural, culinary or outdoor activities, depending on the package. On-site fine dining is possible in one of the two restaurants and Hotel Schwarzer Adler also has a fully-equipped spa and fitness area.
2. Naturhotel Waldklause
The Naturhotel Waldklause in Längenfeld is made entirely out of wood, glass and stone, allowing it to blend in seamlessly with the forest that surrounds it. Guests receive free access to the modern Aqua Dome Tirol Therme Längenfeld, which lies within walking distance or make use of the hotel’s own spa area with different saunas, steam baths, an outdoor pool and more. Wood is the prevalent material used for the rooms as well as the rest of the hotel, in combination with earth tone colors and modern interior elements.
Jungbrunn is located in Tannheim and claims to be the first Alpine Lifestyle Hotel. So what does that mean? Basically, it offers everything you could need on your trip to Tirol. Relax at the large spa, take a sports class, work out with a personal trainer, get a massage, swim in the pool or enjoy exquisite cuisine and one of the hotel’s three restaurants. If you want to get pampered, Jungbrunn is the place to be. The hotel even has its own store with spa products, clothes and design items.
4. Mohr Life Resort
The Mohr Life Resort is located on the grounds of what used to be the Hotel Drei Mohren in Lermoos and has its own museum dedicated to the 200 years of history of the former hotel, as well as to artifacts from the region dating back up to 600 years. The rest of the hotel is dominated by contemporary yet warm design both in the rooms and the 2500 m² of spa area where guests can enjoy both wellness and beauty treatments as well as relax, practice yoga or go to the gym.
5. Das Kronthaler
Das Kronthaler in Achenkirch offers 4-star accommodation with a view of the Achensee. It offers a wide range of outdoor activities (hiking, climbing, golf…) as well as wellness programs and has its own luxury spa. The on-site restaurant offers traditional Tirolian cuisine with a modern twist and is known for its extensive wine selection.
