In 2006 – boy, that sounds ages ago – I went on a vacation with my parents and younger brother to Egypt. We stayed in a nice hotel with pool where we could relax after our morning trips. We didn’t organize those trips ourselves but instead went on some guided tours.
“Your daughter for three camels?”
On one of those tours are bus made a stop at a local shop (Isn’t it always like that?) where you could see how they made all kinds of pottery and figures – and of course also buy those things. When I was looking around one of the shop owners or employees asked my dad if he could marry me! Not kidding! I don’t know what exactly he offered, but there must have been camels involved. Luckily, my dad politely declined.
“Traumatized” by Egypt
I wasn’t the only one who had a small adventure in Egypt, though. My brother, who’s six years younger than me, has gotten really sick while we were there. We couldn’t figure out what it was – the food? the water? – but he had a fever and had to stay in bed for some time. Needless to say he doesn’t have good memories of Egypt and he’s not likely to go back there anytime soon.
And now for the good stuff
That being said, we also saw some great things whilst in Egypt. Have a look:
