I’m Sofie and I’m here to tell you that there’s a whole world out there waiting to be explored. But you already knew that, didn’t you? You’re here on this travel blog, after all. That’s awesome. It means we can skip the fluffy “follow your dreams” part and get to the good stuff: actual practical information you can use to plan your next trips.
Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s super important to make people aware of the importance of travel, of learning about other cultures and putting yourself in new and sometimes even a little scary situations. But I’m more of a “show” than “tell” kind of girl.
At the beginning of 2015 I quit my stable job as a copywriter and marketing coordinator to fully focus on travel blogging and writing. I realized security and certainty weren’t enough. I needed to create my own path and follow my passions.
Now I don’t want to tell you to do the same as I realize we all have different needs and goals. But I do want to help you travel more by showing you which places to visit and where to eat to have a great trip.
But what’s a great trip?
You’re right, that’s not the same for everyone, so here’s what you can expect when you roam around Wonderful Wanderings:
- Food hotspots – a lot of them
I’ll chat with you at coffee bars in my hometown Leuven, take you to high-end restaurants in Porto and let you taste traditional cuisine on Aruba. Just to name a few things.
- Local culture and traditions
I love learning about living traditions, both old and new. We’ll learn about glass blowing in the Black Forest, the first Tower lady of Münster and Rotterdam Unlimited, the highlight of summer in that Dutch city.
Every destination has them, the “tourist attractions”. Well, those places are touristy for a reason and it would be a shame not to visit the Colosseum in Rome, the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona or the historical center of Bruges.
- Practical goodies
It’s good to know what to do, but it’s even better if you know how to get there, what you should be wearing and where you can spend the night when you’re done exploring, so I’ll tell you.
- Travel book reviews
Whether you like travel fiction, memoires or practical travel guides, I’ve got you covered.
I’m always open to new experiences and trying everything (well, maybe not everything) once, but over the course of the years, I’ve learned that some things just aren’t for me and so you’ll hardly read about them here on the blog. If you’re into…
- extreme budget travel
- high, fast, deep or just plain scary adventure activities such as bungee-jumping, skydiving or rock climbing
… this blog probably isn’t for you. Feel free to have a look around, but I might not be able to offer the tips you’re looking for.
So, what do you think? Sounds like your jam? Great! Then why not sign up to get new travel tips delivered straight to your inbox, together with some behind-the-scenes about my travels.
