Who is behind Wonderful Wanderings?

Wonderful Wanderings was founded in 2012 by Sofie Couwenbergh. Dissatisfied with her job as marketing coordinator and copywriter, Sofie decided to combine her love for writing and passion for travel into a blog.

What was initially meant as a creative outlet soon drew the attention of readers from all over the world – and so the dream was born: to turn Wonderful Wanderings into a professional travel blog.

Since then, Sofie has been featured on sites like Business Insider, Thought Catalog, and The Washington Post and has contributed to national and international publications as well as big travel brand sites such as Expedia.

Close to 100,000 people read Wonderful Wanderings every month, and Sofie regularly shares her expertise at travel conferences such as Traverse and the Brussels Travel Top.

Wonderful Wanderings also has a few freelance contributors who share their own experiences traveling the world, and who research the best travel facts and tips for you.
 

How we roll

We don’t care about checking off countries but prefer to visit places multiple times to gather in-depth information. We often return to the same country – and even the same city or region – multiple times to really get to know it and share you more than just the main sights to see.

You can find a list of the countries we’ve written about as well as some guest contributions about other countries on the destinations page.

      I learned about Getxo in the Michelin Green Guide I used to plan my trip. Afterwards I learned that a colleague of mine even spent an entire week in Getxo. He loved it so much!
      You live in a beautiful town and I had the feeling that it’s a nice place to live, with a good vibe among the locals.
      Of course I only was there for a couple of hours, but I don’t think I’d mind spending the night there!

          I by ‘adventurous’ you mean things like paragliding, mountain climbing or something like that, I’m going to have to disappoint you: I’m as dull as can be:D
          I guess the most adventurous for me was deciding to finally go take dance classes in Los Angeles. it might not sound that adventurous, but it was my first step to growing some balls:)

      Me neither. I’d love to travel even more and for longer periods of time, but I quite like my ‘home base’.
      I also want to keep travel as something I can look forward to. I’m wondering if you still do that as much when you’re always on the road.

I’ve lived in South Korea, Africa and several states in the U.S. I still have a loooong way to go as far as my Travel Bucket List, so it’s always nice to see resources like yours ..where I can learn more about various destinations before I even go.

    The funny thing is that I’ve been a Travel Agent for 7.5 years. So, while I get paid to send my friends all over the world, I need to do more traveling myself. Which I plan to work on as of this year.

    Hey Sofie! Yes, I am. Insider tips? Hmm ..I wouldn’t call them “insider,” but one tip I always preach to my clients is ..to book airfare as soon as possible (as you can book airfare up to 330 days in advance). It’s typically cheaper the sooner it’s purchased. Plus, there are more seats (and better flight times) to select from early on.

    Then again, if you travel often, you probably already know these kinds of things :-).
