18 Hotels in Porto With a Pool: Indoor and Outdoor

Porto has 18 hotels with a swimming pool that are worth booking for the pool itself, and the split matters more than the star rating: most of them have an indoor spa pool that works all year, and only a handful have an outdoor pool, several of which close from October to April. If you are picturing a lounger in the sun, that narrows the list fast.

This guide checks each one against the hotel’s own listing rather than an old review. Four of the hotels have changed name since this page was first written, one is across the river in Vila Nova de Gaia, and three are on the coast rather than in the city. Porto is an easy base for the rest of Portugal, and if you are pairing it with the capital, there are Lisbon hotels with swimming pools on the same lines.

Which Porto hotel pool suits your trip

Pick the pool type first, then the neighbourhood. Porto summers are warm but its shoulder seasons are not, so an outdoor pool booked for March is a photograph rather than a swim. The three things that decide it are listed below.

1. Season: seasonal outdoor pools in Porto typically run May to October. Indoor spa pools run all year.
2. Location: the historic centre puts you inside walking distance of Ribeira, Clérigos and São Bento. Foz, Matosinhos and the Gaia coast put you on a beach and 20 to 40 minutes from the sights.
3. Access rules: several spa pools have a minimum age, and a couple of these hotels are adults only, which matters if you are travelling with children.

Hotels in Porto with a pool

1. Torel Avantgarde

Torel Avantgarde has two swimming pools, and the outdoor one looks out over the city and the Douro. Torel Avantgarde is a five-star hotel in central Porto with a spa and wellness centre, a garden and a fitness centre, and it sits about 10 minutes’ walk from the Galerias de Paris bar street. Guests rate its location 9.2 and single out the beds.

The bar and restaurant beside the outdoor pool serve Portuguese and local dishes, and breakfast is continental. Private parking and an airport shuttle are both available, which is unusual this close to the centre. Rooms come with a coffee machine and a desk, and some have a terrace. Rates and dates for Torel Avantgarde are worth checking early, because the hotel is small.

2. BessaHotel Baixa

BessaHotel Baixa has an indoor pool inside a wellness area with a sauna and a fitness centre, which makes it the pick for a winter trip. BessaHotel Baixa stands in the middle of Porto, a short walk from the Bolhão market and the Coliseu, with a location score of 9.2 and a 24-hour reception.

Massages are bookable on request, and the hotel has laundry facilities, luggage storage and a business centre. Breakfast covers continental, American, vegan and gluten-free options. 3. Vinha Boutique Hotel

Vinha Boutique Hotel has an indoor pool, a hot tub and a pool bar, and it is not in Porto: it is across the river in Vila Nova de Gaia. Rooms have balconies with river views, air conditioning and free toiletries, and the restaurant covers Portuguese and international cooking. 4. The One Monumental Palace

The One Monumental Palace has an indoor pool and a spa and wellness centre in a renovated 1923 building three minutes’ walk from Paris Galleries Street. The One Monumental Palace is the hotel this page used to list as Maison Albar Le Monumental Palace: it changed hands and now trades under H10’s The One brand, at the same address.

It is a five-star hotel with two restaurants and a bar, and its location score of 9.8 is among the highest in the city. Breakfast is continental, American and buffet, and private parking is available. Check current rates for The One Monumental Palace under the new name rather than the old one.

5. PortoBay Flores

PortoBay Flores has a naturally lit indoor pool alongside a spa, a sauna and a fitness centre. PortoBay Flores occupies a 16th-century palace on Rua das Flores, in the pedestrianised heart of the old city, and its location scores 9.8.

The five-star hotel has two restaurants, a bar and facilities for disabled guests, and breakfast is a buffet. Many rooms open onto a terrace with a view across the rooftops. 6. Casa da Companhia

Casa da Companhia has two pools, one on the roof and one indoors, which is the only combination of its kind in the historic centre. Casa da Companhia Hotel & Spa now runs as part of IHG’s Vignette Collection, in an 18th-century building on the pedestrianised Rua das Flores.

The spa adds a sauna, a hammam, a steam room and massage treatments, and there is a fitness centre. Breakfast scores 9.5 from guests. Rooms have balconies, minibars and air conditioning, and the hotel takes pets. Prices for Casa da Companhia move sharply in summer.

7. Catalonia Porto

Catalonia Porto has a seasonal outdoor pool on a terrace, so check the dates before you book it for the pool. Catalonia Porto sits in the city centre, seven minutes’ walk from São Bento metro station and about 13 from Ribeira Square, with a location score of 9.4.

The hotel occupies a restored historic building with a garden, and it adds a spa, a fitness centre and a restaurant serving Mediterranean and Portuguese food. 8. BFRESH Hotel

BFRESH Hotel has an outdoor pool and is now adults only, which is the single biggest change on this list. BFRESH Hotel trades as BFRESH Hotel – Padel, Pool & Fitness, roughly 1 km (0.6 mi) from the main sights, and it has added padel courts to the gym and pool.

Rooms have air conditioning, a desk, a coffee machine and a minibar, and some have a kitchenette. There is a restaurant, free private parking and a paid airport shuttle. Breakfast covers vegetarian and gluten-free options and can be taken away. Book BFRESH Hotel only if nobody in your party is under 18.

9. NH Collection Porto Batalha

NH Collection Porto Batalha has an indoor pool and stands in the middle of the old city, four minutes’ walk from São Bento station. NH Collection Porto Batalha is a four-star hotel facing the S. João National Theatre and Batalha Square, about 400 m (0.2 mi) from the Bolhão market.

Rooms have double or twin beds and bathrooms with a bathtub or shower, a bidet, a hairdryer and free toiletries, and some have a balcony. There is a fitness area, a restaurant and a bar, and free Wi-Fi throughout. Guests rate the location and the calm of the public rooms. 10. Porto Palácio by The Editory

Porto Palácio Hotel by The Editory has an indoor pool and a rooftop lounge with a view over Porto and the Douro. Porto Palácio stands in Boavista rather than the old centre, eight minutes’ walk from the Casa da Música concert hall, which suits anyone here for music or business.

The five-star hotel adds a spa with massage rooms and a fitness centre. Rooms are spacious and soundproofed, with a seating area and a marble bathroom, and the larger ones look straight down the river. Check dates for Porto Palácio by The Editory if the view is the point.

11. Pousada Porto Rua das Flores

Pousada Porto Rua das Flores has an indoor pool, a sauna and a fitness centre in a restored 18th-century building on Rua das Flores. Pousada Porto Rua das Flores is the hotel this page listed as Pousada do Porto; the name changed, the address did not.

It is four minutes’ walk from both São Bento station and the Clérigos Tower, and about 500 m (0.3 mi) from Ribeira Square. There is a terrace, a bar, a concierge, room service and a buffet breakfast that guests score 8.5. Rooms stay quiet despite the location. 12. Vila Foz Hotel & SPA

Vila Foz Hotel & SPA has an indoor pool inside its spa, not an outdoor one, so book it for the sea rather than for sunbathing by the water. Vila Foz Hotel & SPA occupies a restored 19th-century manor house and a contemporary wing in Foz do Douro, on the seafront where the river meets the Atlantic, about 5 km (3.1 mi) from the centre.

The spa pairs the pool with a sauna, a Turkish bath and a cold plunge, and the minimum age for the whole spa area is 16. The hotel has 66 rooms and suites and two restaurants: Vila Foz, which holds a Michelin star, and Flor de Lis, which the Michelin Guide recommends. 13. Eurostars Matosinhos

Eurostars Matosinhos has an indoor pool, a steam room and a hammam two minutes’ walk from Matosinhos Beach. Eurostars Matosinhos sits north of the river in the fish-restaurant district, 9 km (5.6 mi) from the airport and near Sea Life Porto, with surfing on the doorstep.

The design leans on blue, white, wood and stone, and the rooms are large. There is a fitness centre, a bar, a coffee shop, an outdoor seating area and room service, and breakfast is a continental buffet. Metro and bus links reach the centre in about half an hour. 14. Hotel Solverde Spa and Wellness Center

Hotel Solverde Spa and Wellness Center has both an indoor and an outdoor saltwater pool, and it is the only hotel here with a mini-golf course and a heliport. Hotel Solverde stands on the beach at Avenida da Liberdade 212 on the Gaia coast, two minutes’ drive from the centre of Espinho and about 15 minutes by car from Porto.

The five-star hotel has 174 rooms, most of them facing the Atlantic, plus a spa with saltwater pools and a dry sauna, tennis courts and a fitness room. The O Jardim restaurant looks over the ocean and serves Portuguese cooking, and there is free private parking. This is a resort stay, not a city one. Prices for Hotel Solverde drop noticeably outside July and August.

15. HF Ipanema Park

HF Ipanema Park has an outdoor pool and a rooftop bar looking over Porto and the Douro, which is the combination most people picture when they search for this. HF Ipanema Park is a five-star hotel about 1 km (0.6 mi) from the Serralves museum and gardens, a five-minute drive from the Foz seafront and 10 from Ribeira.

Rooms and suites have a minibar, cable channels and 24-hour room service. There is a gym and a spa where massages cost extra, the Jardim d’Inverno restaurant and the Twin Trees snack bar. The hotel has six electric-car charging points, two of them fast. Check availability at HF Ipanema Park if you are driving.

16. Maison Cabral

Maison Cabral has an outdoor pool in a walled garden, and it is a guesthouse of eight rooms rather than a hotel. Maison Cabral occupies a 19th-century bourgeois house on Rua de Álvares Cabral in Cedofeita, renovated in September 2019, about 16 minutes’ walk from the Clérigos Tower.

The hosts hand out local recommendations and guests return for that as much as for the rooms, which have a mini fridge, tea and coffee kit and a flat-screen TV. There is no restaurant, but drinks and snacks are available at the bar, and there are plenty of places to eat within five minutes. Parking and an airport shuttle are both offered. Book Maison Cabral well ahead, because eight rooms go quickly.

17. JAM Porto

JAM Porto has a seasonal outdoor saltwater pool that opens from May to October, 08:00 to 22:00. JAM Porto is the hotel this page listed as Mouço: it now trades under the JAM Hotels name at Rua de Frei Heitor Pinto 65 in Bonfim, six minutes’ walk from Campanhã station, and the music concept has survived the rebrand.

A 300-person concert hall sits downstairs, rooms come with a Bluetooth speaker and a hi-fi system, and the interiors are mid-century, with hardwood floors and kilim carpets. The O Heitor kitchen runs from morning coffee to evening cocktails. Anyone under 21 has to be accompanied by an adult at the pool, and there is no lifeguard. 18. Pestana Palácio do Freixo

Pestana Palácio do Freixo has an infinity pool on the bank of the Douro and a heated indoor pool in the spa, and it is the most photographed pool on this list. Pestana Palácio do Freixo is a five-star hotel in a restored 18th-century Baroque palace at Campanhã, listed as a national monument and a member of The Leading Hotels of the World.

Sun loungers line the infinity pool and the bar sends drinks out to it. The spa adds a Turkish bath and a sauna, and children under 12 can only use the spa pool with an adult. Restaurante Palatium handles breakfast and dinner, parking is free and the hotel runs a free transfer into the centre, 3 km (1.9 mi) away. Look at Pestana Palácio do Freixo for the river view.

The Porto Card and getting around

The Porto.CARD is off sale at the moment. Porto’s tourist board withdrew it at the start of July 2026 for a restructuring and has not announced a return date, so plan your museum budget without it. Two other things have changed since most guides were written, and both are worth knowing.

The card no longer includes public transport. The version that covered the metro, city buses and suburban trains was withdrawn, and older write-ups that promise unlimited travel are describing a product that no longer exists. For transport, buy an Andante card at any metro station instead.

When the card does come back, the shape it had before the pause was 24 hours at €7.50 (about $9, £6), 48 hours at €12 (about $14, £10), 72 hours at €16 (about $19, £14) and 96 hours at €18 (about $21, £15), with free entry to a handful of museums, 50% off several more and discounts at over 130 places. Porto hotel pool questions

Which hotels in Porto have an outdoor pool? Torel Avantgarde, Catalonia Porto, BFRESH Hotel, HF Ipanema Park, Maison Cabral, JAM Porto and Casa da Companhia all have outdoor or rooftop pools, and Pestana Palácio do Freixo and Hotel Solverde have outdoor pools too. Catalonia Porto and JAM Porto close theirs outside the warm months.

Are Porto hotel pools open in winter? The indoor pools are. BessaHotel Baixa, PortoBay Flores, The One Monumental Palace, NH Collection Porto Batalha, Porto Palácio, Pousada Porto Rua das Flores, Vila Foz, Eurostars Matosinhos and Vinha Boutique all run indoor pools year-round.

Can children use these hotel pools? Not all of them. BFRESH Hotel is adults only, Vila Foz sets a minimum age of 16 for its spa area including the pool, JAM Porto requires anyone under 21 to be accompanied at the pool, and Pestana Palácio do Freixo asks that under-12s use the spa pool with an adult.

Which Porto pool hotel is closest to the beach? Hotel Solverde is on the sand on the Gaia coast, Eurostars Matosinhos is two minutes from Matosinhos Beach, and Vila Foz is on the seafront at Foz do Douro. All three trade beach access for a longer trip into the centre.

1. Read the pool as indoor, outdoor or seasonal before you book. Outdoor pools in Porto generally run May to October and nothing more: JAM Porto’s saltwater pool opens 08:00 to 22:00 in that window only, and Vila Foz’s pool is an indoor spa pool rather than the garden pool some guides promise. A February booking made for a photograph of a terrace is a booking for a closed terrace.
2. Check the age rules if you are travelling with children. BFRESH now trades as an adults-only hotel, the whole spa area at Vila Foz is 16 and over, and under-21s at JAM Porto have to be accompanied at the pool, which has no lifeguard.
3. Leave the Porto.CARD out of your budget for now. The tourist board withdrew it at the start of July 2026 for a restructuring with no announced return date, and even before that the transport version had been discontinued, so the card never covered the metro, buses and suburban trains that older guides still credit it with.
4. Search the new names, and check which side of the river you are booking. Le Monumental Palace is now The One Monumental Palace, Pousada do Porto is Pousada Porto Rua das Flores, and Mouço trades as JAM Porto. Vinha Boutique is in Vila Nova de Gaia rather than Porto, and Pestana Palácio do Freixo sits on the Douro at Campanhã, 3 km (1.9 mi) out, not near a beach.
